Tulip Coffee Table, Eero Saarinen, Knoll International
Coffee Table with tulip base, designed in 1956 by Eero Saarinen for Knoll International. Saarinen did not like the "slum of legs" under chairs and tables, and created this series, which is officially called Pedestal Series.
The offered table has a sticker with the od logo designed by Herbert Matter, so it has been produced before 1967.
Eero Saarinen (1910 - 1961) was one of the most important architects and designers of the 20th century.
Saarinen was born as son of the well known finnish architect Eeliel Saarinen. In 1923, the family emigrated to the USA. Saarinen studied sculpture and architecture. In 1941 he became partner in his father's architect's office. Saarinen designed buildings and furniture, of which many are now considered as classics of 20th century furniture design. Outstanding examples are the grasshopper and the tulip chair.
