Four Costes Chairs, Philippe Starck, Driade
Four COSTES Chairs, designed in 1984 by Philippe Starck, manufactured in Italy for Driade.
Starck originally designed these chairs for the Café Costes in Paris, which no longer exists. The chair quickly became one of Starck's best known designs and is now considered as one of the icons of the furniture design of the 1980's.
The chairs consist of a structure made of matt black coated tubular steel and a seat made of matt black painted curved plywood. The seat cushions are still covered with the original (and exceptionally beautiful) fabric.
All chairs show light dents at the edges of the seats. The fabric of one chair is slightly discoloured (see last photo, 2nd chair from the left). Otherwise the chairs are in a very good condition.
The dimensions: Width 47 cm, depth 58 cm, height 80 cm, seat height 47 cm.
