Sofabed, Martin Visser, t'Spectrum
BR02 sofabed, designed in 1960 by Martin Visser, manufactured by t'Spectrum. The minimalistic and functional design makes this piece an outstanding example of Visser's design philosophy.
The slightly inclined seat can be pulled out and brought into a horizontal position, so the sofa can be used as a daybed.
The BR02 was in production until 1971. Later, Spectrum reissued a modified version.
Martin Visser (1922 - 2009) originally worked as a hydraulic engineer. He designed his first furniture for a friend. Later he got into contact with the Dutch manufacturer t'Spectrum, and was employed as furniture designer. Visser designed numerous pieces for t'Spectum, of which many are still in production. His works are exhibited in many museums all over the world, and some items today are considered as icons of 20th century design.
